Key Tips for Eurail Shoppers
Eurail Savings Guide
- Make the most of every Eurail trip with the offers on the Rail Pass Deals page. Pass holders enjoy exclusive discounts from Eurail’s affiliates, allowing its customers to save on travel insurance, bike rentals, accommodations, live entertainment, and unforgettable experiences.
- Compare Eurail passes on the “Plan Your Trip” page to determine the best pass for your needs. A 10-day Unlimited Global Pass is a huge waste of money for a weeklong vacation in a single country, but some travelers prefer total flexibility over the budget-friendliness of the One Country pass.
- Save up to 25% on Global and one-country passes with the Eurail Youth Discount. As long as you are between 12 and 27 on the first day of your trip, you can travel throughout Eurail’s 33-country network in first or second class.
- Take 10% off any Global or One Country Eurail Pass with the company’s Senior Train Discount. This offer applies to any traveler who is (or will be) 60 or older as of the Pass’ start date.
- Bring the whole family along without breaking the bank; kids between the ages of four and 11 ride for free with the Eurail Family Pass. You can add up to two free Child Passes per paid Adult Pass, so up to four children can ride along for free with their parents. You don’t have to buy a separate Pass for children three and younger, but you may need to reserve their seats ahead of time if you don't want to hold them in your lap.
- Search for trains that don’t require a seat reservation if you are traveling on a tight budget. Some train routes and countries (such as Spain and Portugal) have stricter ticketing requirements than others, so it’s never a bad idea to assess your options in advance.
- Sign up for the eurail.com email newsletter for travel tips, Eurail promo codes, and news about upcoming Eurail events. If you don't see a subscription popup when entering the Eurail website, just scroll to the bottom of the page to sign up. Once per month, Eurail awards two Eurail Global Passes to two lucky subscribers.
- Download the Rail Planner app for simple, Wi-Fi-optional travel planning on the go. You can use the app to compare timetables, plan your trip itinerary, and unlock exclusive discounts during your travels.
The Best Time To Buy a Eurail Pass
Eurail sales are few and far between, but they aren’t rare; you just need to know when to look.
Availability and discount percentage vary from year to year, but you can count on at least one eurail.com Black Friday deal. Global Passes go on sale more often than their single-country counterparts. Select Global Passes usually sell for 10% to 15% off the usual retail price on Black Friday, though we have seen Global Pass discounts as high as 40% off in the past.
There aren’t many other recurring Eurail Pass promotions aside from the Black Friday deal. Eurail occasionally advertises free first-class upgrades during the off-peak travel season.

Eurail Refund/Cancellation Policy
In most cases, you can cancel or return any Eurail Pass that is unused and has not been activated. The company will deduct a 15% cancellation fee from the original cost of your Pass, so you will receive an 85% refund. Some Pass types are non-refundable, so make sure to read the terms and policies for your selected Pass before submitting your order. Unless otherwise noted, you can return unused Passes within one year of the initial purchase.
For certain scenic trains, you must reserve a seat for a nominal price even if you hold a Eurail Pass. If you decide to cancel a reserved seat, the refund amount will depend on the terms of the particular train company. To see if you qualify for a refund, visit the “Reservation Overview” menu on your Eurail account page and click the trash bin icon next to your train.

About Eurail
Introduced in 1959 as a flexible, affordable way to travel throughout Europe by train, Eurail is a multi-pass vendor owned by several European transport companies. Depending on your budget and itinerary, you can save on individual train tickets by opting for a Eurail Global or Single-Country Pass instead. The Global Pass allows you to travel to over 30 European countries using just one ticket, though you may need to reserve train seating for select high-speed, overnight, and scenic trains.
